We’re kind of tired of the standard rhetoric around how to become a digital nomad / location independent.
Despite being the largest ancient city in Sub-Saharan Africa and inspiring the name of Zimbabwe, not many people have heard about it, and even fewer visit it.
When we arrived in Zimbabwe 3 weeks ago, it became immediately clear that we should have brought a stash of USD with us. Upon fetching us at the airport, my relative, Nicky, gently reminded us that she had in fact told us to do that because Zimbabwe was literally short of cash - in other words, you couldn’t simply go the an ATM and withdraw some crisp dollar bills.
Most people don't know where Mozambique is, not to mention what its capital city is (it's Maputo). Bayka even thought that Mozambique was an ex-french colony before he went there (it's ex-Portuguese).
6 weeks in Dar es Salaam coupled with our exceptional eating and drinking skills has allowed us to create the ultimate weekend guide to ensure food coma status by the end of it. This is not for people who like to do touristy and/or historical things (well, maybe this is a little bit for you). This IS for people who like to spend weekends eating, drinking and gazing at oceans.
The Swahili language is full of colourful expressions and beautiful words. One such word is "dawa", which means "medicine". The main reason I find this word beautiful is because it's also the name of Tanzania's flagship cocktail.
It’s Wednesday night. Wednesday night means exorcism night at the church next door to our place. The chanting, ululations, and singing have finally come to an end. Jess has gone to bed so it’s just me on the couch with a cold bottle of Kilimanjaro Premium Lager and a cheeky Jack Russell Terrier.
Hi, we're Bayka and Jess.
We threw caution to the wind and met up in Chiang Mai in January 2016 after having not seen each other for 3 years. We thought it was an excellent idea for a Kiwi (Bayka) and a South African (Jess) to embark on a romance on the road, built on skype calls and a fuzzy memory of a brief friendship in Beijing circa 2012. Since then, we have been travelling full time.
